SUMMARY:Queer To Tell Presents "Just Another Dead Daughter" Book Launch
DESCRIPTION:Queer To Tell is thrilled to launch the debut poetry memoir of producer\, director\, and storyteller\, Allison Price\, “Just Another Dead Daughter”!\nA poetry memoir\, Just Another Dead Daughter is a poignant and powerful story of Allison Price’s attempt to reconcile faith\, family\, and their true self after being told they had died in the eyes of their family after coming out as queer. \nJoin us in person at The Soundspace at Captain Quack’s for an intimate conversation with the author\, featuring readings and performance interpretations of excerpts from the memoir. You’ll have the chance to meet and chat with Allison\, purchase your copy from Reverie Books and have it signed\, and mingle afterward for a social hour with drinks and live music. \nPlease reserve both a regular ticket and the social hour add-on if you plan to attend both. \nAll tickets are donation based. All donations go towards allowing us to continue to produce Queer To Tell events that support LGBTQIA+ voices.

SUMMARY:Author Event: Brent Love\, Leap
DESCRIPTION:Event Timing: July 9\, 2024 @ 6:00 PM\nHosted at Reverie Books\n5330 Menchaca Rd\, Austin TX 78745 \n\n\n\nJoin us for an in-store reading and signing with Brent Love\, author of Leap\, a gay memoir set in Armenia\, with themes of queer love\, human wonder and the search for belonging. The event will be on Tuesday\, July 9\, 2024 at 6:00 pm. Since this event is located in store\, there are limited spaces available!\n\n\n\nIn a small Texas town\, Brent comes out to his parents\, and on that night his place in the world cracks wide open. Unmoored from his family but unwilling to give up on his dream\, Brent enters the Peace Corps with the incredible task of navigating an unfamiliar land\, a new language\, and a new identity as a gay man in post-Soviet Armenia. \nAs he grapples with a religious past and a queer future\, Brent finds himself immersed in a culture he’d never imagined. Brent moves in with Armenian families\, celebrates his first Nor Tari\, hunts mushrooms in the mountain mists\, and dances in Yerevan at his first gay bar\, all while hoping for and trying to find romance\, even love. When his Peace Corps commitment takes an unexpected turn\, Brent must decide what matters to him most and where he thinks he belongs.

SUMMARY:Shams Alkamil Poetry Reading @ Captain Quackenbush's Soundspace
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a poetry reading with Shams Alkamil! The poetry reading and Q&A will be on Sunday\, June 23\, at 2:00 pm at Captain Quackenbush’s Soundspace. Her newest poetry collection\, When Time Is Circular\, releases on June 15\, 2024. \nAlkamil’s new book is inspired by the movie Arrival to see “how language and the experiences of life are not linear. Rather\, they are circular.” She begins with her own birth\, but her story is far older than that\, the timeless experience of womanhood\, and in her case the discovery of her identity as a young “Black Muslimah” immigrant in America\, circling among worlds and cultures. Inevitably she encounters violence\, personally and globally (her “Ode to the Women of Palestine” has never been more necessary)\, and she writes her way through “anger\, which really was just grief with a scary mask.”
